Guitar Tone Settings Database
: just bought fender usa standard strat and can't wait to play it through my marshall mg15dfx with vox v847 wah, and original dallas arbiter fuzz face, can you recomend any set ups ie, which pick ups tones settings of guitar and amp etc, cheers bro, richard.Ive got a fat strat, crybaby, fuzz face reissue, and out of my little 15w fender i got some good tones. Try these:Spanish Castle Magic-Fuzz Face- (Since i have a reissue i dont have germanium transistors which were in the originals. When i crank my fuzz all the way it gets so deep that i cant even play 3 lowest strings, they get very fuzzy. I think the originals sounded much better but ive never played one i just heard talk about it. So to compensate, i increased the treble and lowered bass. This is just what works for me)volume knob pointing at the lower left corner of the letter 'I' from the 'IN' sticker. And the fuzz knob pointing directly to the right horizontal.
Since tone and volume pots just diminish a signal, running them WFO means you're getting the purest signal from your guitar. But since tone stacks in amps do exactly the same thing-squelch certain frequencies-controlling tone on the amp doesn't seem much of an improvement over controlling your tone on your guitar. Having all your guitars set up properly is an obvious essential for dialing in good tone. I like low-ish action, and for low action to work, I need to set my guitar necks to have just a bit of relief so the strings won’t buzz and rattle, and in turn choke the tone. I’m always checking the neck relief on my guitars and adjusting the truss rod accordingly.
Maybe a little more up or down depends on how intense you want the fuzz.Gain-2 to 2.5Volume-slightly less than 5Treble- 9 to 10Mid- slightly more tha 5Bass- between 2 and 3.Purple Haze:Same Fuzz Face setting but try increasing the 'Fuzz'Increase Gain to about 3Lower treble 5-7Mid- about 5Bass- 2-3For the solo he activated his wah and kept it to the highest setting(most trebley) and used a roger mayer octavia for a higher pitched overtone. Certain parts of the solo he either lowered the wah or switched to neck pickup.Try that for starters. If i have time ill try to get some more. Just sit down and listen to a song, pause it and adjust repeatedly until its good. Then write down the settings in a little notebook.
All I know is that both men use numerous devices to achieve their amazing tone. The best place to start would probably involve buying a Mark II C+ Head (Petrucci.pretty expensive) or a Carvin Legacy(Vai.Actually not too bad of a price.Carvin Rules).
I would give you some setting suggestions if I knew what kind of amp you have. That plays a huge role in defining your tone. Also check out Petrucci and Vai's websites.
Petrucci's has a message board where you can ask him questions. You could post a question for John himself and he will eventually answer. I'm not so sure about Vai, but it's worth a shot. Either way, go visit their sites, they both have some valuable info on them. : All I know is that both men use numerous devices to achieve their amazing tone. I have bought the Photoshop CS6 Extended for Students for my new Mac and realized that I don't have a DVD drive to install it on. Is there a way that I can install the program without the cd? I have looked into the 'free trial then activate' route and Adobe no longer offers a free trial for Photoshop CS6 Extended. Adobe photoshop cs6 extended for mac.
